Parking canopy installation
Car parking shades for an operating site: plan the installation in phases
· Shades Systems
Adding car parking shades to an existing facility means working inside a space used by staff, visitors and service vehicles every day. Before comparing quotations, owners need to understand which parking areas could remain available, where alternative access would run and how each area would be handed back before the next phase begins. This guide focuses on site operation during the project, complementing the existing system-selection and column-layout guides rather than repeating them.

Map parking use before counting canopies
Mark vehicle entrances and exits, accessible parking, drop-off points, pedestrian routes and building service areas on a plan. Record peak arrival periods, deliveries and uses that change during the week. Empty bays during one visit do not establish availability throughout construction. The facility team and contractor should review which areas could be taken out of use and where a suitable alternative could be arranged before closure.
Turn phases into explicit operating decisions
Divide the preliminary programme into areas for review. For each, identify the space taken out of use, remaining access, material and equipment staging needs, and the party authorizing the start. Do not fix the sequence before reviewing the execution method and site safety arrangements. Off-peak working may suit some activities, but does not remove isolation or approval requirements. This guide promises neither uninterrupted parking availability nor a standard installation duration.
Separate users from work areas
Ask how temporary pedestrian routes, vehicle crossings and communication of changes will be shown. HSE's general workplace-transport guidance supports separating pedestrians from vehicles where possible and providing clear crossings with adequate visibility. It is cited as a coordination reference, not Saudi legislation or approval of a site plan. The project's responsible team determines suitable arrangements, including where a walking route approaches an entrance beside a staging or loading area.
Include services and reinstatement in the scope review
Proposed foundations may interact with drainage, buried services or paving that requires reinstatement. Gather available service information and identify responsibility for verification before the relevant works. Ask quotations to distinguish included civil works, paving, parking markings and drainage from work coordinated by other parties. A canopy layout alone does not establish that an area is clear of services, and a canopy supply price does not automatically include full site reinstatement.
| Before approving a phase | Clarify |
|---|---|
| Area | Isolated bays and alternative access |
| Preparation | Equipment access and material staging |
| Responsibility | Who approves the start and changes? |
| Handback | Outstanding items, reinstatement and reopening decision |
Compare car parking shade offers on the same basis
Use a responsibility schedule alongside the total price: design and approvals, site preparation and isolation, fabrication and delivery, erection, agreed civil works, and cleanup and handback. Name the responsible party, required evidence and exclusions for each item. An offer assuming complete closure is not the same operational commitment as one assuming phased access. Clarify those assumptions before accepting the price and programme, rather than discovering them after materials arrive.
A parking photograph is not evidence of construction phasing
The original photographs from the Saudi Electricity Company Facility, Jizan canopy project illustrate the relationship between the covering, parking spaces and surrounding facility. They do not establish that the work occurred while parking remained operational, that it was phased or that it met a particular duration. A photograph cannot verify fabric grade, foundation capacity or site procedures. Review the solution for your project against its own information and approved design.
Agree each area's handback before reopening it
Identify who checks that the agreed work for an area is complete, which records or inspections are required, and how outstanding items will be logged. Assign responsibility for clearing materials and equipment and reinstating routes and markings within the approved scope. Moving the installation team to another area does not itself constitute handover. Reopening requires a clear decision through the project's responsible parties and procedures; this article is not a safety-approval checklist or erection method.

Prepare a brief that reflects the operating site
Bring the parking plan, recent photographs, operating hours and access priorities to the initial discussion. Add available utility information and restrictions on equipment access or material storage. Discuss the design, fabrication and installation scope with Shades Systems, including work phases and the facility's and contractor's responsibilities before fixing the programme. Selecting the canopy matters, but understanding how the site will operate during the works is equally important when comparing proposals.
Frequently asked questions
Can car parking shades be installed without closing the car park?
There is no universal answer. Review the execution method, isolation and access arrangements to determine project-specific closures.
Does the price include paving and parking markings?
Only where the quotation explicitly includes them with responsibilities and exclusions.
Do the Jizan photographs prove phased installation?
No. They illustrate the canopies and parking context, not the construction method or duration.
