Swimming Pool Shade Structures Saudi Arabia — Engineered Shade Solutions
Swimming Pool Shade Structures in Saudi Arabia: Swimming pool shade structures serve the dual purpose of protecting bathers from Saudi Arabia's intense UV radiation and reducing pool water evaporation — a significant operational cost saving in the Kingdom's hot, dry climate. An unshaded 10×20 m outdoor pool in Jeddah can lose 5–8 mm of water per day to evaporation during summer; a well-designed shade canopy reduces this by 40–60%, delivering meaningful savings on water and pool chemical costs. Shades Systems designs and installs corrosion-resistant pool shade structures for hotels, resorts, residential compounds and sports facilities across Saudi Arabia.

The critical material requirement for swimming pool shade structures is resistance to the chlorine-laden atmosphere that exists in and around all pools. Standard mild steel is inadequate in this environment — chlorine-rich air accelerates corrosion dramatically, causing rust and structural degradation. All steel used in our pool shade structures is hot-dip galvanised to a minimum 85 µm coating, supplemented by powder coating in selected colours for appearance. Where the highest level of corrosion resistance is required — enclosed pool halls, resort pool decks with intensive chemical treatment — we use powder-coated aluminium alloy frames, which are intrinsically immune to chlorine corrosion and need no additional galvanising.
The roof material choices for pool shade canopies reflect the different functional requirements of different pool environments. HDPE shade cloth at 70–80% shade factor is the most common choice for outdoor compound and hotel pool decks — it provides significant UV reduction while allowing air circulation, preventing the heat accumulation that would occur under a solid roof and maintaining the open, outdoor character of the pool environment. Tensile shade sails in PVC-coated waterproof fabric create a dramatic, architectural appearance for resort and hotel pool areas where the shade structure is also a design feature. Polycarbonate sheet roofing is used for enclosed or semi-enclosed pool structures where full waterproofing is required.
Column placement and clearances around swimming pools require careful safety planning. Columns are never positioned within the pool deck safety zone — typically 1.5–2.0 m from the pool edge — to prevent injury to swimmers entering and exiting the pool. Where the pool deck geometry is constrained, we use cantilever structural systems to achieve clear-span coverage over the pool deck without columns in the critical zone. Foundation depths and dimensions are calculated for the specific soil conditions — pool areas often have waterproofed slabs and specific structural constraints — and all column anchor designs are coordinated with the pool civil and structural drawings to avoid conflicts with the pool waterproofing membrane and drainage systems.
Our swimming pool shade installations include hotel and resort pool decks at properties across Jeddah's Corniche, Riyadh's hospitality corridor, the Red Sea Project and NEOM. Residential compound pool decks — where children's safety and year-round usability are the primary drivers — represent a large share of our pool shade portfolio. Sports facility pools at universities and athletic training centres require structures that accommodate elevated springboard and diving facilities while still providing shade for deck seating areas. We design for each pool's specific configuration rather than applying a standard product catalogue.
