Facilities management

When to request a canopy membrane tension inspection

· Shades Systems

If a canopy membrane changes shape or the same issue returns after rain, gather the information an inspector needs to scope the visit. Compare it with the handover condition and record where and when the change appears.

Compare with the handover condition

Curvature can be part of the design. Locate handover photos and drawings of the same area. Record whether the change is new or recurring and whether it affects one panel or several.

Record where water collects

If you observe water accumulation, note its position relative to the edge or the drainage route shown on the drawings. Record whether it returns in the same place. Ask the specialist to assess the cause.

Photograph edges and connections from a safe position

Capture an overall view and the affected area from a safe, authorised position. Record visible edge or connection changes and tears. Follow the site's procedures if there is an apparent hazard and refer it to the facility manager.

Send a record the inspector can use

Include the asset ID, location and observation date in the request. Number the photographs and mark their positions on a site plan. Record conditions at the time and any documented work nearby.

Tensile structures

Define the inspection scope

Ask the specialist to review the membrane, edges, connections and how they meet the supporting structure against the system documentation. Tensile membrane contractor Buitink Technology includes fabric condition, pretension, cables and fittings in its own inspection scope. Ask your specialist which checks apply to your structure.

Agree the visit deliverables

Request a report with the areas checked, photographs, findings and any measurements or follow-up review required. Leave decisions on tension and repair to the specialist working from the actual system and project records.

Close the issue in the asset record

Link the inspection report to the original request and photos. Record the owner of each follow-up action and the review date recommended by the specialist. Add reference photos after any approved work.
