PVC vs PVDF vs HDPE shade fabric comparison

Compare the three main shade fabrics used in Saudi projects before selecting a canopy specification.

HDPE is a breathable knitted shade cloth with a typical 8–12 year service life. It is the lowest-cost option and suits playgrounds, schools, sports courts, open parking and other projects where airflow matters more than waterproofing.

PVC-coated polyester is fully waterproof, moderately priced and typically serves for 12–18 years. It is a practical choice for commercial parking, covered walkways and general tensile canopies.

Selected PVDF-coated membrane grades are fully waterproof and use premium topcoats that can improve UV and colour retention and reduce dirt adhesion. Published service-life ranges commonly reach 18–25 years, but the approved data sheet, warranty, test reports and maintenance requirements govern each project.

Indicative ranges are not guarantees. The selected manufacturer, membrane grade, exposure, detailing, maintenance, warranty and current product test documents govern the final specification.
