PVC/PVDF Tensile Shade Structures — Playground & Outdoor Areas, Roshn Sedra 2, Riyadh
Conic and hypar PVC/PVDF tensile shade structures designed for playgrounds and outdoor gathering areas at Roshn Sedra 2 in Riyadh.
Shades Systems designed, supplied, and installed a coordinated family of PVC/PVDF tensile shade structures across playgrounds and outdoor community areas at Roshn Sedra 2 in Riyadh. The sculptural canopies provide welcome shade above play equipment, seating zones, and pedestrian gathering spaces while contributing a distinctive architectural rhythm to the residential landscape.
The scheme combines conic and hypar sail geometries, using carefully tensioned fabric surfaces to achieve expressive forms and reliable performance. Each canopy was patterned to control curvature, distribute membrane forces, and maintain clean edges between the high and low points. The warm fabric tone complements the surrounding buildings and planting, while the open-sided configuration preserves visibility and natural air movement around children’s play areas.
A durable PVC/PVDF architectural membrane provides UV protection and meaningful heat reduction for Riyadh’s demanding climate, supported by a 10-year material warranty. Engineered steel masts, perimeter fittings, anchor points, and foundations were coordinated for the site layout and verified against applicable wind loads. Drainage direction, safe clearances, and the relationship between each shade and nearby equipment were considered throughout the design.
